Mangalore through my eyes

Life can be so different if you stay in completely unknown city. Different atmosphere, different people etc. etc.
For the last 2.5 years I am having an experience of staying in new city completely different from the one I used to live, where I was born an grown up.

Now, Let me tell you why I am here. There is small story behind it. After my marriage I was staying in Kolkata with my husband and we both were working there. My husband got a good offer in an IT company in the city called "Mangalore" and shifted. After he shifted to Mangalore I went to stay with my parents. But I was missing him a lot. But how should I go there? I was working too and need a job there also. But Mangalore is not like Bangalore where you can find an IT company in every corner of the city. So had to wait...
But I was lucky, came for a vacation in Mangalore during pujas and got a good offer in the same company hubby was working.I was so happy. Then just 1 month of wait and I am here to reside in a new city.

Initially we stayed in big rented house for few months but had to change it for extreme weather conditions.Let me tell you Mangalore is a city where there is no winter and only summer and rain. We both felt sick and on the top of that there were 2 cats the owner has who are our uninvited guest . They will drop in anytime and might come and sleep beside you. I hate cats like anything.

We got a beautiful apartment near our office. It was just 7 mins walk from there. It was brand new flat and I loved it instantly. We took the flat and soon started setting it up.We purchased a couple of things to make our home a beautiful one.

Mangalore is a beautiful city. Though it becomes very hot while summer and rainy season is like never ending. but still there is serene beauty of it. The city is a hilly place with both hills and sea at the same time. There are so many beaches around Mangalore which are really awesome. People here speak the language very different from us. You will never understand what they are speaking. My husband managed to learn few of them while communicating with our maid and the local grocery shop. but I never tried. For me it is only English and very honestly it has enhanced my English vocabulary. But we feel extremely delighted when we find any Bengali person speaking Bengali and will ask us a very common question "Apnara Bangali?".
But I must admit that these mangalorians are very sweet and friendly in nature, which we lack in our city. Here, any person you know or don't know will give you a smile while passing by.

Now coming to food, it is very different from the other part of the country. The people here put a lot of coconut oil and tamarind paste to every curry and also they eat less potatoes which is good in one sense. Here, mostly we get sea fish that are prepared in a traditional masala. I must say, I really like the dish "Chicken Ghee Roast". It is a perfect blend of ghee, chicken and other spices. Biriyani here is prepared in a different style not very common like the mughal biriyani. There are 2 ice-cream parlors here "Ideal Cafe" and "Pabbas" which serve delicious ice-creams.

I like the city, I like its beauty, Its so clean, less traffic and a beautiful view.
Whenever we are going somewhere in our bike, I feel so delighted looking at those nice views. Our apartment is in the top of the hills and on going to terrace we can have a spectacular view of the city and a wide glimpse of the sea far away.

This city has changed my life. It has given me an identity.I can proudly say, I am a working woman as well as a homemaker who loves her home and work so much. I am a hard core professional when I am in office and a true homemaker once I am at home. On weekends, I am very busy with my cooking. cleaning and relaxing. I love to cook. My husband is a food lover and I feel very delighted to prepare anything for him.

If I ever have to move out from here I will surely miss it. But for now it is best city I  am living.
